What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

Alona

Adults with mental health issues generally have a difficult time trying to put aside time or making the commitment to inpatient care or treatment.  If one is not suffering from symptoms that require being placed in a hospital, it can be easy to put aside the mental health treatment that you need; while there are absolutely varying degrees of mental health or behavioral health symptoms, the reality is that it is wise to get specific treatment as soon as you can.  We understand that it is a difficult process at times to admit that you need help; it is commendable to even seek treatment in the first place.

The good news is that in addition to inpatient therapy, many mental health facilities can provide outpatient services as well.  Rock Prairie Behavioral Health provides Outpatient Programs for adults that are suffering from general challenges, such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and various psychiatric disorders. For an adult who really doesn’t want to put their life on hold for several weeks or longer, outpatient care can really provide them with a unique opportunity to get the help they need while fitting the convenience of a 21st century daily schedule.

Rock Prairie’s outpatient programs include both partial hospitalization and an intensive outpatient program. They are focused on providing methods of healing that work well and that provide individuals suffering from mental health and behavioral health problems with the development of adaptive coping skills. These structured day programs provide patients with a host of unique and effective services which can include:

  • Group therapy
  • The ability for the patient to live at home and to come to the outpatient facility during the day as required
  • A great opportunity to take a “step down” from intensive inpatient care or therapy, which helps to provide for an easier transition for daily life
  • Provides stabilization for interactions and transitions to productive activities at home, at work and in the community
  • Various intensive services that help to meet the needs of each patient’s specific mental health or behavioral health challenges
  • Meals that are nutritiously balanced will be served daily

The Partial Hospitalization Program, or the PHP, provides patients with intensive care for psychiatric needs, but focuses on those who do not require 24-hour care.  Patient who undergo this route are able to come during the day for treatment and return home each day.

The Intensive Outpatient Program at Rock Prairie Behavioral Health is a great choice for patients who are struggling with a general mental health issue.  Attending the program for three hours at a time, it allows the patient to have a tremendous amount of flexibility depending on their schedules, and allows treatment to progress while simultaneously juggling the responsibilities of daily life or families.

Each and every patient that comes through our doors will be evaluated from the initial point of assessment, which allows us to understand where exactly one stands in regards to their specific symptoms, to determine a course of treatments and therapy and to develop a great connection with our patient with our group of mental health experts.

We truly do recognize that it takes a lot of courage to admit that you may be suffering from a particular mental health or behavioral health challenge. Our goal is to be able to provide each patient with the necessary tools that will enable them to get the help that they need and to overcome the obstacles in their daily life.  Our facility provides not only outpatient resources, but is also open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day in order to serve your needs.
