Families or Friends of Someone Seeking Help

Friends and family members are often the closest and most reliable people that a person with mental health problems can turn to.  It is important to listen to them and show empathy.

At Rock Prairie Behavioral Health, we provide many types of programs and we will work together to determine the best program for your friend or loved one.

If you are unsure about how to approach your friend or loved one, simply call us at (979) 703-8848.  We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer all your questions.

Here are a few tips you may want to consider:

  • Explain to the person your reason for concern in a caring manner while staying calm.
  • Remind the person needing help that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength.
  • Explain to the person that their problems cannot be solved on their own and that a trained professional can help them solve their problems and make them feel better.
  • Be available to help support them. Offer to take them for the assessment and ask if they would like you to be present during the assessment.
  • Together make the call to Rock Prairie Behavioral Health at (979) 703-8848 and allow our counselor to speak to your friend or loved one.
